UPS Engineer
To carry out installation, commissioning, servicing, periodic maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification of any faults found with uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), batteries and critical power equipment. This will include but not be limited to UPS, batteries, electrical switchgear, controls, generator sets and electrical installations. Resolve any issues at the work site without interrupting the customer’s business or daily activities and ensuring high standards are always maintained. Liaising with customers and all internal departments as needed, advising on sites current and future critical power requirements and safe use of equipment, ensuring all parts of the critical power system work to optimal performance.
Duties /Responsibilities to include but not limited to are;
- Carry out site visits for service and maintenance (PPM) requirements, fault diagnosis, testing and repairs on all types, makes and manufacture of UPS, batteries, switchgear, control systems and associated critical electrical / mechanical equipment.
- Carry out load bank testing, site surveys, investigations and inspections of UPS, batteries, switchgear, control systems, generators and associated electrical / mechanical equipment.
- Carry out installation and commissioning of UPS and battery systems and assist on installations for a wide variety of critical power equipment.
- Install temporary / hire equipment including UPS, batteries and generators on customer sites.
- Carryout battery impedance testing and battery replacements and installations.
- Provide prompt support, breakdown response, diagnosis and resolution for UPS and associated critical electrical equipment.
- Supervise the on-site work of electricians, trade helpers and apprentices engaged in the installation, maintenance and repair of UPS and critical power equipment.
- Provide technical assistance as needed to internal departments and customers alike.
- Accurately complete all service visit reports, action lists and records in timely manner with accurate and full details.
- Be part of the on call rota.
- Work unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays as determined by the needs of the business.
- Mentor and assist with on the job training and supervision of apprentices and junior engineers.
- Estimate the time, resources and materials required for remedial jobs and submit detailed reports; initiate requirements for supplies, tools, and equipment as necessary to complete jobs.
- Liaise with Sales, Service, Design and Project Departments as required and make recommendations to ensure jobs are professionally completed on time and on budget.
- Carry out essential hands on / site instruction and training with customers, engineers and apprentices as required.
- Highlight and report additional sales opportunities and leads
- Enforce safety regulations, rules, working conditions and good working practices at all times.
- Carry out electrical testing and complete electrical test and inspection certificates as required.
- Take all reasonable measures to prevent wherever possible unnecessary return service visits.
- Communicate with all customers, suppliers and internal staff with a courteous and professional manner at all times.
- Carryout any other reasonable duties or tasks as determined by the needs of the business.
- Train and instruct personnel in the safe operation of equipment and tools.
- Complete dynamic on site risk assessments before commencing any work
- Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills and Continually and actively increase technical and product knowledge
