The Brief
Hersham Place Technology Park suffered a transformer feed failure, leaving the site without full power.
The site is managed by Bellrock Property and Facilities Management and is home to the UK headquarters of Air Products Ltd. Without full power available, hundreds of workers were unable to continue working from site.
While Bellrock worked to source a replacement transformer, the lead time and required modifications to the existing switchgear meant the site could have remained without full power for several weeks. Bellrock contacted P&I Group to provide an emergency temporary power solution that could restore site operations quickly and safely.
2
The Challange
The transformer feed failure had caused a major disruption to the technology park.
A replacement transformer was required, but this could not be delivered and integrated immediately. Additional switchgear modifications were also needed, creating the risk of several weeks of operational disruption.
The site required a fast, practical and resilient temporary power solution that could support normal business operations while the permanent electrical infrastructure was repaired. The solution also had to be integrated safely with the existing electrical infrastructure and provide enough resilience to support the whole site.
3
The Soultion
P&I Group attended site immediately to assess the existing electrical infrastructure and identify a suitable temporary power strategy.
Following the site survey, the team identified that the HV cable feeds could be removed from the panel, allowing temporary generators to be connected to the board. By reconfiguring the bus couplers, P&I Group developed a temporary N+1 generator solution using two 1250kVA hire generators.
This arrangement provided temporary generation for the whole site. For additional resilience, the site’s existing standby generators remained connected and available to operate in standby mode if any unforeseen issues occurred with the hire generator setup.
P&I Group coordinated the design, suppliers, delivery, installation and commissioning of the emergency power solution within a matter of days.

The Result
Within a few days of the initial call, P&I Group had designed, delivered and installed a temporary generator solution that allowed normal business operations to continue.
Employees were able to return to work, helping reduce the potential operational and financial impact of the power outage. The temporary generator system remained on site for several weeks without issue until the replacement transformer and switchgear works were completed.
Bellrock’s customer praised P&I Group’s professionalism, swift turnaround and safe workmanship from the initial emergency call through to the end of the hire period and removal of the equipment.
